2011-2012 Lethbridge Ladies Volleyball League Rules
Current Canadian Volleyball Association (CVA) rules will be in effect with the following exceptions:
- Any teams playing with less than 6 players will take a forfeit – they may play their game, but will lose 25 – 0. We strongly discourage playing with less than a full team – please use the spares list. An updated copy of the Spares Listing can be found on the website – contact any member of the executive if you cannot remember your user name and password information which can be found in your team booklet. (This information is locked and requires a password to protect the information provided by spares.)
- Teams will have 5 minutes beyond the scheduled start time to ‘field’ a team (6 players) after which the first gameis forfeited (loss of 25-0). Teams have an additional 15 minutes before the 2nd game is forfeited. This timing applies to each of the 3 matches of the evening. Please adhere to the timeframes noted on the schedule. We are on a very tight schedule and if games start late, it affects everyone at that facility.
- All six games for each team should be completed within 2 hours. This 2 hours includes set up/take down of equipment. We can get into most facilities before our start time, so please make sure your team is early. Players are EXPECTED to show up 15 inutes before scheduled start time to help set up and take down nets, which is different than in past years. Show up early, keep warm up shorts and QUICK breaks in between games and matches.
- If there is less than 15 minutes left in your time slot (regardless if you are in the early or late time slot) and you are just starting a new game, play to a cap of 15. The late slot can’t consistently have less time allowed for their matches, and the caretakers won’t allow us to consistently stay late.
- Any player not registered properly will not be eligible to play in the league and any team found to be using ineligible players will forfeit any games those individuals played. Ineligible players include anyone not registered with a team or the singles list, anyone under the age of eighteen as of December 31st, 2011, or anyone currently playing high school, college, or university volleyball (or if after January 1st, anyone playing the fall semester with a school affiliated team).
- Teams cannot put an injured player in the corner of the court and play with five people.
- Regular league play matches will consist of two games with two points awarded per win. Each game will be capped at 25 points.
- Rules for tournaments will be given with tournament information.
- The let service will be in effect at all times. Let Service means that if the ball contacts the net during service and lands in the opponents’ court it will be deemed as a live ball and be played as a regular serve.
- LLVBL is not including the new CVA rule with respect to contact with the net – ANY contact with the net is a violation and results in a loss of point. Please be honest when making contact with the net and help your teammates make the appropriate call.
- One time out per set/game is allowed, during league and tournament play. Keep these timeouts SHORT!
- The league will be split into 3 divisions consisting of 8 teams: Teams will be reseeded after each rotation. The top 2 teams B Division will move to A; bottom 2 teams in A will move to B; top 2 teams in C will move to B and bottom 2 teams in B will move to C. Tie breakers at the end of each rotation will be determined by wins losses between the tied teams. If teams are still tied, the determination will be points for and against. If teams did not play each other that rotation, we will refer to prior rotations. If they still haven’t played each other, the higher ranked team will keep the higher ranking.
- Teams are to play their matches according to the schedule. Teams must stick to the outlined times, courts and opponents.
- Please insure that any damages to gyms or equipment are reported to the executive the next day. We can then discuss the situation with the facility appropriately to ensure we can continue to use that facility.
- We are not always guarenteed teh same amount of gym time from year to year. Therefore, priority will be given to teams who have been in the league the ongest. If we lose gym time, new teams may not be eligible to re-enter league in future years, but will be placed as priority on the waiting list. If space is not available any applicable deposits will be refunded accordingly.
Clarification of Rules
It was asked that we clarify a a rules. If more clarification is wanted, please advise and we will add to this list:
- At this time, we are not concerned with substitutions entering games. However, please keep in mind that frequent swqitching of players causes unnecessary time delays.
- Blockers CAN cross the plain of the net, EXCEPT when the setter is attempting to set the ball.
- An out of rotation call is made when a player crosses his/her position before the server makes contact with the ball. There can certainly be 'movement' by a player before contact of the ball as long as they don't cross their rotation position until the server has made contact with the ball.
Scoring
- The winning team from each game must record the final scores on the sheets provided in the gym. Failure to fill out the score sheets will result in 0 points given for those games. The losing team should be considerate and write down the score if they notice the winning team failed to record the score.
- The first team listed on the schedule in each time slot must submit the scores via our website (www.llvbl.com) for each match during that time period no later than 24 hoursfollowing the matches. Please keep the scoresheets in case they are needed at a later time. Please help us make our jobs easier.
- Please indicate any forfeited games on the score sheet when providing the scores.
- Points are awarded as follows:
-2 points for each game won
-0 points for forfeits/non-recorded final scores
Spares List/Rosters
- Each team has been provided with the Spares list for the league. You may call these players to play for your team to avoid forfeiting matches.
- Players must be added to the Spares list or team roster before they play. Teams wishing to add a person to the Spares list must provide Vicki (vicki@llvbl.com) with the following information:
- Name of Spare
- Date of birth
- Phone numbers (cell, home, and work if possible)
- Email address
- Position(s) the spare will play
- Skill Level (Competitive –Tier I, Intermediate (middle Tier I – Top Tier II) or Recreational (Tier II)

This information is required so other teams have enough information about the spare to also pick them up at some point. You may email Jaime the same day that spare is scheduled to play, but please ensure the above information is provided or they will become an ineligible player and you will forfeit the points for that evening.
- Teams wishing to make changes to their roster must email Vicki at vicki@llvbl.com. All the information from the roster sheet must be provided along with a signed Waiver/Code of Conduct form within 2 weeks of the addition. Waiver/code of Conduct forms can scanned and emailed or mailed to Vicki at 42 Mt Rundle Road West, Lethbridge, AB, T1K 7B5
- Please adhere to the player eligibility requirements as noted above.
- Team rosters may contain not more than 15 players.
- Players must play 2 league nights in order to be eligible to play in the year end tournament. Spares do not need to meet this qualification. There is no exception to this rule, so please ensure you have a full roster and all players are eligible at the end of the year.
Behaviour
- Teams displaying unsportsmanlike behavior or abuse of the gym facilities may not be allowed to participate in future seasons.
